Here is the dead underlayer of the painting I posted a couple weeks ago. I really is amazing how much control this techinque gives a painter. Leting some of the umber show through lets the layers build on each other to create dept that is not possible with alla prima painting (dont get me wrong, I love alla prima). Anyone here have any experience or thoughts on this technique? Please leave a comment and let me know.
