Pear on Red Crate

10x10 oil on canvas board

The more I use the so-called Flemish Techinque (there appears to be quite a bit of debate over how exactly the Flemish masters actually painted) the more I like it. It becomes so easy to apply the color once the tone is set. Like paint-by-numbers. I especially like how the green and red play off each other in this painting. Im selling this painting for $100. Please email me at taborlsu@gmail.com if you are interested in buying.

Flemish dead underlayer: Pear on Crate

Here is the dead underlayer of the painting I posted a couple weeks ago. I really is amazing how much control this techinque gives a painter. Leting some of the umber show through lets the layers build on each other to create dept that is not possible with alla prima painting (dont get me wrong, I love alla prima). Anyone here have any experience or thoughts on this technique? Please leave a comment and let me know.

Umber Layer-Fleur De Lis (WIP) & Gallery

I have added a Gallery page to my blog so that everyone can have quick access to my previous paintings.  It is still a work in progress so bear with me. Some of the paintings have links to Etsy if you are interested in purchase. Until all the links are up, if you are interested in buying one of my paintings just eamil me at taborlsu@gmail.com.

Also, here is the Fleur De Lis after a second round of umber.

It darkened it considerably from the first round and allowed me to control tone better. Compare the first coat and second coat results:
2nd Coat
1st Coat

I also took some time to correct my crooked tabletop.  I really like the depth I can create using this method, as well as the abilty to separate tone from color--which has always given me fits.  What do you all think about the Flemish Method?
