8x10 oil on gesso board
I walked by the mini seedless watermelons about thirty times on Saturday. I have always wanted to paint one, I just was not sure I could do it. The green stripes particularly worried me. Now I'm glad I decided to try. This painting did not take all that long (about 2 hours). I started by just getting the generall form and color variations on the watermelon while ignoring the stripes. Once the watermelon started to get its form, I went in and added the stripes, which I think really bring out the roundness of the fruit. From there, I went back in and darkened a few spots and lightened others. Finally, I added the background, starting with the base. Thanks for stopping by, I hope you like it.
