Pear and White Rose

8x10 oil on gesso board

I know, I know.  Another pear.  We are getting ready to move so I am running low on real fruit.  Both the pear and the rose are part of the fake fruit (and flowers) I bought a few weeks ago.  Not sure why I like this pear so much (posted another painting of it a couple weeks ago).  I have never seen a pear this color in real life.  Maybe that is the reason.

The flower was . . . difficult. This is the first time I have painted a flower (at least one I did not wipe off half way through).  It was tough, but interesting.  Hope you like it.  Thanks for stopping by.

Mango

5x7 oil on gesso board

My wife picked this mango up for me yesterday to paint.  It was really interesting to try to transition from the green to red while painting "wet-on-wet."  The thinner I kept the paint the better.  Since I have started adding the medium to my paint I have noticed that my technigue has changed a pit.  I no longer draw the painting with raw umber before I paint.  Now, I mix the darkest value of the object I am painting and basically start from the outside and work to the middle toward my lights.  During that process I always seem to "lighten up" my darks so I have to go bank in at the end and darken up some spots to make the painting turn.  Hope you like it.  Thanks for stopping by.

Pear with a Green Stripe

5x7 oil on gesso board

I know you all are probably getting tired of seeing pears.  Sorry, but I can't help it; I really like to paint them.  This one jumped out at me while I was at the grocery store today (I always run through the produce section to see if there is anything I can paint).  This is a Red Bartlett pear (I think).  I thought the green stripe really made the pear stand out and gave it personality.

Leaning Pear

5x7 oil on gesso board
Stopped by and picked up some more gesso board panels from the art store yesterday. I think I am sold on them now that I have gotten used to painting on them. This is the same pear I painted about three posts back (one of the plastic pieces of fruit I bought a while back). Now that I have started getting the hang of adding linseed oil as a medium I really like it.  I didn't fight the paint near as much as I have been.  Baby steps.  Thanks for stopping by.

Apple

5x7 oil on canvas board

Not sure what I think about this one.  I bought some plastic fruit at the craft store and this apple caught my eye. It is painted really dark and almost looks like a plum.  I struggled a bit painting on the canvas board instead of the gessoed board my last two paintings were on.  Thanks for stopping by.

Orange Pear

5x7 Oil on Gessoed Board
Here is my latest attempt.  I am learning quite a bit (although frustratingly slow) about using medium in my paint.  Today I tried the pure linseed oil.  I think I will stick with it.  Thanks for stopping by.

Pear

This one was a bit of a struggle.  For the first time I painted on gessoed board. I don't think I like it.  It was very hard to control the paint with my brush strokes.  I am beginning to think that the medium I am using may make the paint a bit too thin.  For my next painting I may try altering my medium a bit and use something a bit thicker (maybe straight linseed oil).  We'll see.  Thanks for stopping by.
